An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist to join the growing ecology team of my client, an established and highly regarded rural property, planning and professional services consultancy.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for an ecologist looking for greater variety than a traditional consultancy role. Working closely with colleagues across planning, land management and rural property, you'll be involved in projects spanning ecological consultancy, Biodiversity Net Gain, natural capital, habitat creation and long-term land management.
With a significant amount of work generated through my client's established land and planning client base, you'll have the opportunity to become involved in projects from an early stage and see how ecological advice translates into practical outcomes on the ground.
The Role
Depending on your experience, your work could include:
Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and ecological surveys
Protected species work, including bats and Great Crested Newts
Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and habitat baselining
Habitat Management Plans and ecological mitigation
Supporting the creation, enhancement and long-term management of habitats
Natural capital and wider nature recovery projects
Planning and development-related ecological advice
Working alongside planners, land agents and other specialists
Liaising directly with landowners, developers and other clients
My client is also developing its habitat creation offering, providing an opportunity to work on projects that go beyond simply assessing ecological impacts and instead contribute directly to habitat enhancement and nature recovery.
About You
We're interested in speaking with ecologists at Ecologist through to Senior Ecologist level. You don't need to tick every box, but you'll already have some professional ecology experience and ideally exposure to areas such as PEA, protected species, BNG, habitat assessment or ecological planning work.
Experience with bats, Great Crested Newts or other protected species would be particularly useful.
More important is an interest in developing a broad ecology career and working across a varied mix of projects within a growing team.

The role is based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, with flexible hybrid working and typically 2–3 days per week in the office.
Salary is open and will depend on experience and level.
