I recently contributed to an article produced by the IES (Institute of Environmental Sciences) with regards to what makes a competent EIA practitioner. I found it an interesting read as EIA expertise has always been quite hard to define, especially for people who are not working directly in the sector. Unlike many other disciplines there is no definitive guide to what constitutes a competent expert, given the general complexity of the process.
Hopefully it provides some useful information/Media/EIA%20Competency%20Guide.pdf. It is particularly useful for people looking to get into the industry either as a Graduate, or for people looking to move across from other sectors.
Given the shortage of experienced EIA practitioners against the number of jobs currently available in the market, this hopefully provides clarity on the kind of experience/qualifications that may help people demonstrate that they could use their transferable skills to work in this exciting field.
