My client is a fast-growing, mission-led nature-tech company developing innovative tools that empower land managers, planners, and ecologists to make better decisions for biodiversity and climate resilience.
They’ve built the UK’s leading software for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), now used daily by professionals to deliver high-quality ecological outcomes. Backed by a recent multi-million-pound investment, they’re expanding their impact and capabilities — and looking for a forward-thinking Director of Ecology to join their team.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of ecological technology. You’ll work at the interface of ecology, policy, and digital innovation — from AI’s role in ecological assessments to novel approaches for measuring nature value.
You'll collaborate closely with the co-founders and engineers to ensure products reflect real-world ecological insight while contributing to strategic thinking and thought leadership across the sector.
What You'll Be Doing
Shaping the company’s direction through research and insights into ecological policy, practice, and innovation (UK and global)
Acting as an expert voice on ecology and BNG, supporting customers and the internal team with technical guidance
Collaborating with product developers to help translate ecological workflows into intuitive tools and new features
Engaging with the wider environmental community through events, articles, and thought leadership
Working directly with clients to understand their needs and share solutions
Taking a hands-on, collaborative approach — contributing across the business wherever your expertise adds value
What They’re Looking For
This role suits someone with ecological expertise and the curiosity to reimagine how tech can better serve nature. You might not tick every box, but if you’re a strong learner and creative thinker, you’ll thrive here.
Essentials:
Background in Ecology or related field (BSc/MSc)
Eligible for (or already hold) CIEEM membership
Proven experience in applied ecology, with a track record of innovation or influence
Knowledge of the UK planning system and environmental policy
Interest in how digital tools and data can enhance ecological work
Strong communicator and collaborator, confident engaging with interdisciplinary teams
Self-starter who’s comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment
Why Apply?
Work on meaningful projects with high impact for biodiversity and climate action
Join a smart, mission-led team at the cutting edge of eco-tech
Enjoy flexible working, real autonomy, and share in the company’s growth
Influence the next generation of tools shaping how ecology is practiced
