Biodiversify is a conservation consultancy which advises a range of private, public and third sector clients who want to act for nature. They work at the cutting-edge of scientific research to employ creative and disruptive techniques to challenge the status-quo of how biodiversity is managed in practice. The team is able to offer a wide range of services and they have undertaken projects which vary from fisheries governance research to biodiversity impacts of the fashion sector.

Biodiversify are a growing company of experts who either work remotely or from their London or Nottingham offices, with a strong emphasis on quality and innovation. They place a high value on work-life balance, job satisfaction and career development.

Biodiversify are looking to fill one or two positions at consultant/analyst grade with technical biodiversity expertise to assist in developing methodologies to undertake assessments of corporate biodiversity impact and dependency and using this evidence to guide strategy development. We are interested to hear from individuals with some experience in this space. This is a unique opportunity to work with their Research & Development Lead to be at the forefront of practical biodiversity measurement for corporates and contribute to the wider initiatives in this space.

London/Nottingham (100% remote working available)

 The Role

You will be expected to work with corporate data provided by clients and use both tools and analysis to calculate quantitative elements of corporate biodiversity impact, dependency and risk. Main duties and responsibilities include:

·         Support the design of methodologies and their delivery for impact and dependency analysis for leading companies across a range of sectors including tech, agri-business and apparel.

·         Use quantitative data-led approaches to conduct materiality assessments, risk assessments and other relevant methodologies.

·         Help to create innovative approaches to assessing biodiversity impact through supply chains.

·         Help to integrate robust evidence into ongoing decision support systems and strategies.

·         Ensure methodologies are consistent and compliant with a range of relevant frameworks and legislation e.g. CSRD, SBTN, TNFD, GRI etc.

·         Engage in external forums and keep up to date with scientific literature to ensure they are at and contributing to the cutting edge of biodiversity and natural capital assessment within supply chains.

Because Biodiversify is working and expanding into new areas of work there is a broad scope of other secondary responsibilities which can be adapted to take best advantage of the applicant’s skillset.  These could potentially include; identifying new clients and seeking contracts, writing reports and proposals, investigating the value of new technologies or data sets etc. 

 About You

Biodiversify are working very hard to create a well-rounded team.  This is partly about making sure they have a good, combined skillset, but is more about finding people who fit well within the company.

Because they are at the cutting edge of biodiversity sustainability, they often have to develop brand new approaches, something they can only do by working together creatively.  Given this is a nascent space they  are particularly interested in individuals who are keen to innovate, drive the space forward and work with the wider team to ensure positive decision making. The candidate should be numerically confident and with experience of quantitative assessment for biodiversity. The key characteristics required in the candidate therefore include:

Essential Characteristics

·         A Masters degree in a relevant environmental/social subject.

·         Professional work experience in corporate sustainability, supply chain analysis or consulting.

·         Fluent use of coding language(s) such as R or python.

·         Knowledge (including strengths and weaknesses) and experience of a range of tools or analysis related to biodiversity e.g. IBAT, ReCiPe, Corporate Biodiversity Footprint, Global Biodiversity Score,                    STAR etc.

·         Ability to innovate to provide novel solutions.

·         Confident communicator with a range of stakeholders with varying levels of knowledge.

·         Knowledge of relevant biodiversity legislation or corporate disclosure frameworks e.g. CSRD, TNFD, SBTN, GRI etc.

·         Ability to effectively visualise data for communication.

Desirable Characteristics

·         A PhD in a relevant subject.

·         Confident user of ArcGIS or QGIS.

·         Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessments, particularly with a focus on biodiversity or natural capital.

·         Passionate about biodiversity recovery.

·         Confident working as both an individual and part of a team.

We do not expect applicants to have all of these characteristics and we are interested in hearing about any other skillsets the applicant has that they feel are relevant, such as:

·         Statistical analysis.

·         Interdisciplinary approaches.

·         Agricultural practices, management and sustainability.

·         UK environmental policy.
